Bianca Arte Contemporanea, parallelamente al group-show Loci Natura, ha il piacere di ospitare la prima personale italiana della giovane artista inglese Anna Hughes dal titolo A Division in Time no Less than a Division in Matter.
Per il solo-show la Hughes presenta una serie di opere inedite ispirate dal testo Return of the Native dell'autore Thomas Hardy edito in Inghilterra nel 1878. Paesaggi desolati in cui l'azione del tempo non è visibile ed in cui la natura è quinta silente delle trasformazioni sociali legate al fenomeno della seconda rivoluzione industriale. La cristallizzazione spazio temporale operata dall'artista diventa un espediente per trasformare la pittura di genere in un momento di riflessione. La ricerca di Anna Hughes si incentra su una interessante variazione contemporanea del concetto di sublime, in cui spesso la forzata sovrapposizione pittorica di elementi geometrici, estranei alla composizione naturale, sembra descrivere la volontà dell'artista nel voler contenere e razionalizzare il senso di smarrimento e limite. La dialettica tensione tra opposti come familiarità ed estraneità è da sempre un punto chiave della sua poetica. Bianca Arte Contemporanea is pleased to host the first Italian solo exhibition of the young british artist Anna Hughes entitled A Division in Time no Less than a Division in Matter. For the solo-show Anna Hughes presents a series of new works inspired by the Return of the Native text by Thomas Hardy, published in England in 1878. Desolate landscapes where the action of the time is not visible and nature is a silent set of social transformations related to the phenomenon of the second industrial revolution. The space-time crystallization made by the artist becomes a device to transform the painting in a moment of reflection. The Hughes' research focuses on an interesting contemporary variation about sublime concept, in which often the forced pictorial superposition of geometric elements, extraneous to the natural composition, seems to describe the artist's desire to contain and rationalize the sense of loss and limit. The dialectic tension between opposites such as familiarity and strangeness is always a key point of her poetics. * Anna Hughes Londra 1982.
