Torna anche quest'anno l'Happening Internazionale Underground, evento senza scopo di lucro che ogni anno riunisce più di 100 artisti ed editori indipendenti in una tre giorni di esposizioni, incontri e mostra mercato. Dalle 15.00 all'una di notte il 16, 17 e 18 maggio si possono incontrare autori ed editori, scambiare esperienze e trovare affinità, all'interno di un evento che da sempre dà spazio ai nuovi autori offrendo anche un percorso storico sull'arte underground. Psichedelia, punk, poster art, street art, cover art, fumetti, illustrazioni e molto altro al Centro Sociale Leoncavallo di Milano. Quest'anno anche con il "Mini-happening", dedicato ai piccoli!

Forse uno degli eventi più interessanti nell'evento HIU.
La mostra sulla street art offre una panoramica notevole sull'attualità e sulla storia, nel pieno spirito dell'HIU, che sempre cerca di offrire spazio alle "nuove leve" e anche strumenti di comprensione dell'arte underground, che ormai ha una storia importante alle spalle.
Dalla New York negli anni '80 alla Milano di oggi, la Street Art, insieme ai Graffiti, ha insegnato come qualsiasi superficie possa essere il supporto per opere pittoriche.
In un territorio, quello urbano, sempre più invaso da pubblicità, controllato da telecamere e limitato da recinzioni, la Street Art lancia il suo grido di libertà: la voce dell'arte deve vibrare tra le strade, farsi vedere, conquistare gli spazi che le vengono negati, arrivare a tutti, perchè tutti hanno il diritto di viverla.
La metropoli è il territorio da conquistare, da migliorare, la massa è il pubblico da stupire, da scuotere, da scandalizzare.
Attraverso l'uso di mascherine, adesivi, posters, installazioni, performances, vernici spray, la Street Art lascia i suoi effimeri messaggi in continua evoluzione.
All'HIU saranno presenti opere di Paolo Buggiani, capostipite a New York negli '80, e della nuova scuola: Abbominevole, Bo130, L'x, Microbo, Pao, Plank, Robot Inc., Santy, Taz Movement, Sea Creative.
Una parte sarà anche dedicata alla Street Art milanese dagli anni '80 a oggi: Vandalo, Atomo, Swarz, Shah (e molti molti altri).
Saranno inoltre presenti documentazioni o opere di Space Invaders, Obey the Giant, Jenny Holzner e altri.
Infine ci sarà un playground, un'area dove tutti coloro che fanno Street Art sono invitati a partecipare.

PAOLO BUGGIANI
Paolo Buggiani was born in Castelfiorenfino, Florence, on May 9, 1933. Buggiani was a member of the 1950's Roman avant-garde (together with Giulio Turcato, Corrado Cagli, Alberto Burri, Piero Dorazio, Carla Accardi and Gastone Novelli). He then moved to New York in 1962, where he received the Guggenheim Fellowship for sculpture in America in 1968, for experimenting with a new method of sculpture called the Vacuum Forming System (see Ricerca per l'intuizione del Tempo, 1972). Donald Judd, Anthony Smith and Philip Guston were also awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1968. During this period he was also researching the concept of "Time" as it related to art.
Returning to Italy in May 1968, he was active both in Rome and Milan. At that time he realized the "Ephemeral Sculpture in Motion", Fire" (as a Performing Art in nature),"Paintings over Reality" (landscapes photographed through painted crystal), and "Wearable Art" (handpainted jumpsuits), Milano 1977 - New York 1978.
Going back to New York in 1978, his Fire Sculptures in Motion, Mechanical Reptiles and the symbols of Icarus and the Minotaur placed into the urban environment brought him popularity as one of the most important members of the Street Art Movement, along with Keith Haring, Richard Hambleton, Ken Hiratsuka and Linus Coraggio. Internationally known for his installations of fire sculptures, he is today regarded as one of the most independent contemporary artists. Since 1979 he has been sharing his time between New York and Italy, where he lives and works in the medieval town of Isola Farnese, Rome.
