Nato a Lisbona nel 1956. Ha partecipato a molte importanti mostre internazionali, tra cui, Documenta IX a Kassel, e la 24° Biennale di San Paolo (Brasile), Aperto, La Biennale di Venezia, 1995. Nel 2003 ha rappresentato il Portogallo alla Biennale di Venezia.
