WOLFGANG TILLMANS WILL RECEIVE THE CULTURAL AWARD 2009 IN HEIDELBERGER KUNSTVEREIN

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie (DGPh) has awarded Wolfgang Tillmans the renowned cultural prize 2009. The ceremony will take place in the context of the 3rd Photo Festival Mannheim_Ludwigshafen_Heidelberg on October 3, 2009, in the Heidelberger Kunstverein.

Wolfgang Tillmans (born 1968 in Remscheid) became renowned in the nineties for his straight photographs of a particular gay and youth culture. His extensive work is characterized by its accuracy and seeks to explore the boundaries between perfection and imperfection. In the last years, several important museums have presented Tillmans' work in solo exhibitions, such as recently Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin.

Since 1959, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie annually awards the prize to living artists for their "outstanding achievements in the medium of photography ". Henri Cartier-Bresson, F. C. Gundlach, David Hockney, Man Ray, August Sander and Wim Wenders amongst others have been awarded the prize in the past.
