The Province of Naples, located in the Southern Italy Campania region, embraces a territory of 92 municipalities characterised by unique sceneries and breathtaking cultural heritage. Province of Naples administration has been carrying out a worldwide programme of activities to promote tourist local systems, particularly the Phlegraean Fields and the Vesuvius area. Archaeological sites and beautiful landscapes, thermal baths and relaxing sea sides, dynamic contemporary art centres, top brand shopping districts and restaurants with delicious food from a prosperous land and sea...all these aspects are the statement of an amazing territory that let us tell you: come to visit the Province of Naples!
On 19th – 21st June 2008 Naples Provincial Councilor for Tourism Giovanna Martano and delegates will bring to Beijing a taste of this multi-faceted land.
Tourism occupies a central place in creating interactions among people in the world. The unique creative themes of this southern Italian destination have inspired Nonsolonapoli: an event that takes place in two parts and highlights the Archaeology, History, Contemporary Art and Culture of the Neapolitan area.
The first moment is the participation to BITE (Beijing International Tourism Expo) from 19th –21st June 2008 at Beijing Exhibition Center, one of the most awaited dates for promotion of international tourism to China. Here the Provincial Council will be present inside the Italian Pavilion with its own stand. The expo will be an occasion to present to a public of professionals of the Tourism industry, through audiovisuals and printed material, the features of this charming territory.
The second moment, Nonsolonapoli day, is a focus event taking place on 20th June 2008 at Beijing Tokyo Art Projects, a famous art gallery in Beijing 798 Art District. Within the gallery space we will showcase the peculiar fascination that Naples and its surroundings as cultural and art destinations generate on all visitors.
Counting various Unesco World Heritage Sites, this area forms a sort of ‘open museum’. A photographic itinerary will be originally displayed inside the gallery space inspiring a tour through the themes of Archaeology, History, Contemporary Art and Culture. We will also screen for the first time in China a selection of short films on Contemporary Art by famous Neapolitan Director Pappi Corsicato. The director’s camera flies over gigantic site-specific installations created for the city of Naples by outstanding international artists (Jannis Kounellis, Richard Serra, Mario Mertz, Sol Lewitt, Gilbert & George, etc…). Most of these installations are set on the marvellous hemicycle of Plebiscito Square; Corsicato’s short films convey the fragrant fusion of classic and contemporary architecture and the coexistence of the historicized space and ‘nomadic’ contemporary artworks. These films have been shown in national and international museums and festivals: Modern Tate Museum, Centre Pompidou and others. Another area of the gallery will present slide-show projections of images from Naples “Art Metro Stations”: a project of public art that invited contemporary artists to produce artworks to become permanent installations of the city subway system.
Nonsonapoli day will open with a press conference, preview and cocktail for media representatives (5-8 pm) and other guests during which Councilor Martano will present the project. From 8 pm the gallery space will be open to the public for a party.
A full colour (English and Chinese) book will be published and given to media representatives.
